The Creative AI Showdown: Highlights from MAD//Fest's Unofficial Afterparty
During this year’s MAD//Fest, we added to the discussion on AI creativity by inviting everyone to an AI Prompt battle afterparty. After all, how better to understand the way in which we can harness AI and tech to elevate data-driven marketing, than by practising with it to its fullest potential?
Why add on a pub quiz-themed AI prompt jam into an already packed schedule talking about creative effectiveness, ad automation trends, and… you guessed it… AI? Precisely because of that!
As the conversations around AI in data-driven marketing grow, we keep hearing that it will change the industry, threaten jobs, and revolutionise the way we work. However, we’re struggling to see too many examples of people actually using it, and using it successfully.
So, as part of the MAD//Fest programme, we created an unofficial afterparty where the best of the industry could come and have a competition to stimulate their tech-assisted creativity.
The first round asked everyone to use ChatGPT to come up with a name for their team. We then had a round where we asked everyone to guess different celebrities that had been made to look as their younger selves using Midjourney generated images.
And, to stretch imaginations and content generation capacities, we also asked guests to create an advert for Nivea’s new BBQ scented hand-cream and to generate an image of the worst advertising conference ever.
What did we learn from his exercise? Although AI is pretty much available to anyone, using it creatively will yield very different results. Ultimately, creativity remains the key element that matters in producing engaging and effective content, and we can choose to back it up with AI and automation to enhance our productivity and effectiveness.
